Jaxson’s Story

Jaxson Grubbs, a 14 year old member of the New Castle community, passed away unexpectedly from a swimming accident in June of 2024. He was more than just a beloved member of our community. He was a kind-hearted, fun, carefree spirit and often a prankster. Jaxson had a passion and commitment to the game of baseball. His life, though far too brief, made an impact on this community and remind us that the smallest acts of kindness can create the biggest impact.

Love Like Jaxson

Love Like Jaxson is a nonprofit organization created by Jaxson’s friends and family. Love Like Jaxson is to show kindness no matter the circumstances. We have done fundraisers, community services and donations to different places in need around our area. For example, we had truckloads of donations that we delivered to The Guest House (Men’s Shelter) last November as well as monetary donations to Hagars Hope (Women’s Shelter).
Our mission is to do more activities to help our community in the years to come. With the help of our community we can fulfill our mission and help the ones that need it the most.

Jaxson’s Locker

Jaxson’s Locker is an extension of Love Like Jaxson. The aspect of wanting to help others is the same but the need is very different. Our mission is to provide gently used or new baseball or softball equipment to families that may not be able to afford the necessary equipment for their players. The hope is that families will utilize the equipment until it’s outgrown and, once outgrown, pass it on to someone else. In doing so, we will carry on Jaxson’s legacy and keep his spirit alive in one of our favorite places, the ball diamond!

Laynie Lawson, a friend of Jaxson's and a student at New Castle High School, and her mother had a dream of making a nonprofit organization in honor of Jaxson Grubbs. They shared this idea with some of his friends: Jett Neal, Braxton Pribble, and Kelsey Lewis. Friends who joined a little later were Dennis Cobb and John & Luke Brewster. These students came together and answered the call. Jenny Grubbs and Chuck Johnson, who are Jaxson's grandparents and adopted and raised him, have helped immensely in making the nonprofit actually happen. We have also had the amazing help of Taylor Pinkard (Jaxson's sister), who has helped with organizing meetings and brainstorming different project ideas. Without these adults, none of this would have been possible. They are true examples of what community should be. After our big donation last November, we found that this was our motivation to help people. Our team is excited for the future and eager to help our community.
